ESKOOTR CHAMPIONSHIP ACHIEVES TRIPLE SILVER RECOGNITION FOR THE UN CLIMATE NEUTRAL NOW INITIATIVE

The eSkootr Championship™ (eSC) has been awarded the triple Silver level of achievement in Measuring, Reducing and Offsetting greenhouse gas emissions by the UN’s Climate Neutral Now initiative.

The Climate Neutral Now initiative, which is led by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), encourages companies and organisations to understand their carbon footprint and make measurable improvements to reduce it, offsetting any unavoidable emissions through trustworthy carbon credits. The initiative is backed by companies such as Microsoft, Sony, Juventus Football Club, SailGP and ABB FIA Formula E, and levels of recognition within the programme are divided into Bronze, Silver and Gold across the three steps.

eSC aims to inspire and drive positive change through sport and has sustainability at its core. It joined the UNFCCC Climate Neutral Now programme in February 2021, a movement that helps drive greater awareness about global climate issues. Understanding the impact that micromobility will have on the environment, the Championship wants to go further in highlighting the challenges and to develop solutions and best practice for the sector.

This includes a study on the Lifecycle Assessment of the S1-X eSkootrs, which will be launched later this month. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the newly-established Commission for Micromobility and Sport and best in class academics and students at UCL (University of London), with the help of eSC’s technology suppliers.

eSC’s triple Silver award recognises the championship’s efforts in implementing a calculation for greenhouse gas emissions across Scope 1, 2 and the majority of Scope 3 in its inaugural season as well as putting in place a reduction strategy with intermediate targets for future seasons and full offsetting of the first season carbon footprint with UN-sanctioned carbon credits.

Hrag Sarkissian, eSC Co-founder and CEO, said:  “Creating a sustainable sport that can have real-world impact is one of the key areas of focus for eSC and to achieve a triple Silver award from the UNFCCC in our first year is a big moment in our development. This initiative is backed by some of the biggest companies in the world and it is important for us to be highlighting the potential environmental benefits of the micromobility sector for urban transportation.

“We will continue to work with our industry leading partners and Commission for Micromobility and Sport to further develop our processes and environmental impact.”

Lucas Di Grassi, eSC Co-founder and Sustainability Ambassador, said: “eSC’s triple Silver award is a testament to our robust and data driven sustainability strategy. We want to use the power of sport to implement change and we set out with the aim of working towards a greener, healthier environment for all.
